Position Summary:
The Director of Technology is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of all district technology systems and services. This role includes planning, implementing, and maintaining infrastructure and technology systems that support educational and administrative operations in a safe and secure manner. The Director ensures the effective integration of technology into classrooms and throughout the district. This leadership position is pivotal in advancing the district’s technology vision, improving systems, and fostering a safe and secure technology-rich environment that supports student and staff success.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee the district’s technology systems, ensuring alignment with the district’s goals and objectives.
Supervise and manage technology-related personnel, including coaching and mentoring.
Provide day-to-day technical leadership for network systems, including administration of Windows and support for workstations (Windows and Chromebooks).
Oversee management of servers and network infrastructure.
Oversee the implementation and management of Google Workspace for Education (formerly G Suite), including Gmail, Google Drive, Google Classroom, Google Meet, and other tools. Ensure secure access and smooth operation for all users across the district.
Ensure that district data and user information are protected by implementing strong security protocols.
Maintain compliance with educational data privacy laws (FERPA, COPPA).
Lead technology project management, including planning and executing technology-related upgrades and integrations.
Develop and manage district technology budget, inventory, and procurement of technology resources.
Ensure compliance with licensing, copyright laws, and all relevant district and state technology standards.
Plan and implement preventative maintenance for all district technology infrastructure.
Investigate and recommend technology solutions to improve efficiency and meet the needs of the district.
Provide ongoing support and technical training for teachers, administrators, and support staff.
Prepare and present technology-related reports, proposals, and recommendations to the district administration and board.
Research, apply for, and manage technology-related grants.
Stay informed on emerging technology trends and innovations in education.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (strongly preferred). Equivalent training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years of related experience in information technology management.
At least 3 years of supervisory experience in a technology leadership role (preferred).
Experience with technology project management, network infrastructure, server management, and integration of educational technology.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in server management.
Experience with Cisco and Extreme switches
Expertise in VOIP systems, NVR servers, and camera configurations.
Experience with Skyward, Powerschool and various educational software platforms (preferred).
Experience in managing Chromebooks, PCs, and peripheral equipment.
Strong knowledge of technology security practices.
Ability to research and recommend new technologies to meet district goals.
Certifications: MSBO CTO certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Flexibility and adaptability in managing changing technology needs and priorities.
Physical Demands:
Regular sitting or standing for extended periods.
Occasional lifting or moving of heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds).
Ability to travel between district buildings and attend evening meetings as necessary.
Ability to respond to technology needs during emergencies or high-demand periods.
