Overview
Edwardsburg Public Schools, a National Blue Ribbon district, is accepting applications for a dynamic, energetic Secondary Guidance Counselor For The 25-26 School Year who effectively holds high academic expectations while building rapport with students, parents, and staff. Coaching options may be available.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The person selected for this position will be the one who offers the best combination of training, experience and attributes in accordance with the following:
A. Master Degree in Guidance and Counseling (Minimum)
B. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with School Counseling Endorsement
or School Counselor License (Minimum)
C. At least two years of verified successful counseling experience preferred.
D. Ability to relate positively with students, teachers and parents
E. High level of interpersonal skills to communicate verbally and in writing
F. Experience in organizing and planning for M-STEP, PSAT, and SAT Testing.
G. Knowledge of PowerSchool
H. Preferred experience in using CollegeBoard
I. Experience as a collaborative team participant.
J. Complete (at applicant’s expense) State-mandated Criminal Background Check.
DUTIES:
1. Provide personal and educational counseling to students.
2. Consult and regularly communicate with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors and other appropriate personnel as necessary using traditional and electronic forms of communication.
3. Provide individual and group guidance and counseling to assist students in making informed decisions about their occupational or educational futures, personal adjustment, and educational progress.
4. Provide appropriate testing and assessment to assist students in making occupational/education decisions.
5. Provide student outreach/recruitment, orientation, counseling, and other referral services.
6. Use technology systems (familiar with PowerSchool) and applications to manage records, generate reports, and analyze data.
7. Gather and organize information about students and interpret this information to the student and his/her parents to help the student deal with needs and problems that may present themselves.
8. Provide resource information to students (financial aid, scholarships, post-secondary education options, and other community resources).
9. Refer students to other specialists in the school system or in private and public agencies as needed.
10. Work independently and cooperatively in all aspects of the job.
11. Perform other duties as assigned by administrator.
