John Glenn School Corporation, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a full-time position at Urey Middle School. The successful candidate will play a vital role in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they achieve their full potential.

 

Job Requirements:

Design and deliver engaging standard-aligned content to Special Education students
Use data to drive instruction, remediation, and enrichment
Maintain high standards of academic and behavioral excellence
Build relationships and sustain contact with students’ families
Collaborate with colleagues in a professional learning community, particularly the School Psychologist, Special Education Chairperson, Case Conference Coordinator, Building Administration, and General Education Teachers
Develop and implement an Individualized Education Plan, and/or Behavior Plan for each child complementary to his/her educational, social, and emotional strengths and weaknesses as defined through the evaluation and IEP process
Complete IDOE required annual assessments (i.e., IAM, IREAD, ILEARN)
Provide guidance and direction to classroom support staff
Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
Serve as a resource and collaborate with outside agencies, as appropriate
Ensure appropriate accommodations to the curriculum, lessons, and learning environment
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or enrolled in a transition to teaching program for Special Education.
Valid Indiana Special Education teaching license. Candidates with pending licensure may be considered.
Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to implement positive behavior support strategies.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Proficiency in using technology for instruction, assessment, and communication.
Current CPR, Heimlich Maneuver, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
Completion of Child Suicide Awareness and Prevention training (or willingness to obtain).
Successful completion of background checks and fingerprinting as required by Indiana law.
