About the Lead Pastor
The Lead Pastor provides overall leadership for the church alongside the elders. They are primarily responsible to preach and teach the Word of God and to provide strategic leadership and vision to the church staff and church body. Their goal is to shepherd believers through insightful and accurate presentation of biblical truth, equipping them to be “ambassadors.” They strive to teach and lead by word and example and stress both the understanding and application of God’s truth.

The Lead Pastor’s responsibilities include:
Preaching and Teaching
Serves as primary pulpit preacher delivery biblically rooted messages for CCG.
Determines all staff preaching responsibilities. Leads planning of annual preaching calendar. Ensures that all outside speakers who preach at CCG communicate biblical truth.
Works with the Worship Pastor and team to develop a coordinated worship atmosphere that leads people to the throne of God.
Prepares and delivers dynamic and inspiring sermons that effectively communicate God’s revealed truth and are relevant and appropriate to the audience.
Motivates believers to utilize their spiritual gifts for God’s glory and inspires non-believers to seek the Lord as their Savior.
Studies the art and craft of preaching for the purpose of continuously improving their preaching skills. Coaches ministerial staff in the development of their preaching skills and personal ministry leadership skills.
Teaches (primarily, although not restricted to) adult classes providing rich, in-depth knowledge of the revealed Word of God to support spiritual growth.
Leadership
Serves as the primary long-term vision caster for the Church. Makes their personal imprint on CCG’s current vision, mission, values, and strategic objectives.
Communicates and champions CCG’s vision, mission, values, and strategic objectives in such a way that church members enthusiastically embrace them.
Leads the church staff, in collaboration with the Executive Pastor, to carry out the vision and mission. Specifically, works with the senior staff in strategic planning, goal setting, and results accomplishment.
Champions leadership development at all levels within the church.
Addresses and resolves church conflict in a loving and biblical manner.
Relationships and Shepherding
Establishes strong relationships and a spirit of cooperation that promotes a unified team atmosphere among elders and church staff.
Builds relationships with church members, guests, as well as the broader Greenwood community and churches.
Serves as a model and mentor to others in areas of day-to-day Christian life, especially with regard to:Leading others to Christ.
Being a godly spouse and parent, if applicable.
Being a responsible steward of time and finances (including personal rest).
Establishes a trusted support team for their ministry that will encourage them, pray for them, offer honest feedback, and provide accountability.

Education and Experience
Seminary degree required.
5+ years of ministry leadership experience.
Personal Characteristics and Qualifications
A visionary, prayerful leader who is a lifelong learner with a deep love for Scripture and a strong theological foundation, able to bring nuance and clarity to faith and practice.
Demonstrates authentic relational skills and emotional intelligence, building trust and shepherding the congregation with care and attentiveness.
Serves as a unifier—bringing staff, leaders, and the congregation together around a clear, shared identity and vision.
Skilled at navigating complex dynamics, including church founders and long-time members, while leading revitalization with wisdom and grace.
A clear and gifted communicator who engages people effectively without relying on performance or production.
Proactively addresses conflict with discernment, seeking wise counsel and honest feedback, and fostering mutual trust and accountability.
Mobilizes and galvanizes others toward shared mission and ministry goals, aligning positions and practices across the church.
A heart for local and global missions.
Models servant leadership by showing up, supporting various ministries, and championing both local and global missions.

Meet Community Church of Greenwood
Community Church of Greenwood is a vibrant, non-denominational church in Greenwood, Indiana, dedicated to helping people see and share the hope of Jesus together. CCG has been a welcoming community where people of all ages can grow in their faith, build authentic relationships, and serve others with compassion. With Christ-centered worship, relevant teaching, and a heart for both our local community and the world, we seek to live out the transforming power of the Gospel in everyday life.

Highlights
Our church will celebrate 50 years of serving the Lord and building His Kingdom in 2027.
CCG has a rich history of missions and church planting.
CCG is debt-free.
Beginning in 2026, over 100 acres of adjacent land will be developed into hundreds of new homes within walking distance of the church.
We have an independent Christian school that leases our adjacent facilities. They also lease classroom space within our church building.
