Overview
The Stanley Clark School seeks an experienced, reflective, and highly-collaborative Second Grade Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year who is motivated to work closely with a grade-level teaching partner. Candidates should aim to cultivate a growth mindset learning community while embracing the unique qualities that seven and eight-year-olds bring to a joy-filled classroom. Ideal candidates will delight in helping children realize their full potential by getting to know each child deeply, celebrating their strengths, and intentionally supporting the development of areas where they can grow. Candidates should be eager to implement research-informed teaching practices and feel confident designing engaging learning opportunities centered around the development of foundational math, literacy, and social-emotional skills.

Faculty must have a passion for teaching children, be of outstanding personal character, and have demonstrated exceptional expertise in the art and science of teaching. All teachers must show a willingness to collaborate, think creatively, innovate, and exhibit a commitment to continuous improvement that ensures our students’ experiences at school are second to none each and every day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Desire to learn and be part of a dedicated Lower School faculty learning community that consistently seeks to reflect on and improve their teaching
- Demonstrate a love of working with children and an eagerness to partner with their families to support their growth
- Nurture and champion each child’s identity, interests, talents, and skills in a classroom environment that fosters inclusivity and belonging
- Apply a range of strategies and scaffolds to support students’ academic, social, and behavioral needs, recognizing that our goal is to ensure each child in our care thrives in Stanley Clark’s learning environment
- Continually assess students’ learning in order to tailor instruction to student needs
- Willingness to work in a context of flexible groupings where students are shared by both homeroom teachers at the grade level, particularly for Reading and Math
- Communicate proactively, frequently, and personally with families and colleagues in a way that demonstrates deep care and excellent interpersonal skills
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues to foster interdisciplinary learning experiences and support students across academics, the arts, athletics, and character
- Show an eagerness to regularly reflect on, document, and enhance curriculum
- Exhibit a spirit of professionalism with all school community members
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will possess at least 3-5 years of full-time lead teaching experience in an elementary classroom and a Bachelor’s degree. Candidates should be motivated to stay informed about best practices in elementary literacy, math, and science or social studies instruction. Experience with the Wilson Fundations program or a similar explicit and systematic phonics program is ideal.
