Overview

The Stanley Clark School seeks an experienced, reflective, and collaborative part-time Reading Specialist for the 2024-2025 school year who is motivated to work closely with students to support children’s growth in reading. Candidates should be instructional experts in the teaching of reading and have a passion for remediating literacy skills while encouraging a growth mindset in students who may need extra practice with reading skills. Ideal candidates will utilize research-informed teaching practices according to the science of reading and feel confident designing engaging learning opportunities centered around the development of foundational literacy skills. This 10-month role is designed for 25-28 hours per week, likely working between 7:30am-1pm Monday through Friday.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply a range of strategies and scaffolds to support small groups of students’ reading development, particularly for students who require extra support to reach grade level benchmarks
  • Willingness to support the implementation and interpretation of screening, diagnostic, progress monitoring assessments
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify student needs, set learning goals, plan targeted instruction, use formative data to guide interventions, monitor progress toward learning goals, and problem-solve to implement best practices for continuous student academic growth in literacy
  • Desire to learn and be part of a dedicated faculty learning community that consistently seeks to reflect on and improve their teaching
  • Demonstrate a love of working with children and an eagerness to partner with their families and their classroom teachers to support their growth
  • Nurture and champion each child’s identity, interests, talents, and skills in an environment that fosters inclusivity and belonging
  • Communicate regularly with families and colleagues in a way that demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills
  • Serve on and contribute positively to designated committees and curriculum departments
  • Exhibit a spirit of professionalism with all school community members
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will possess at least 3-5 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor’s degree, as well as experience implementing science of reading research. Candidates should be motivated to stay informed about best practices in supporting elementary and middle school literacy. Experience with the Orton Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, and the Wilson Fundations program, or a willingness to be trained in these approaches is ideal.

Compensation:

This position qualifies for salary only, with no health benefits. The position includes generous paid time off and ongoing opportunities for professional development.
